Swine Disease Prevention and Control

We are dedicated to safeguarding the health, quality, and marketability of American pigs through the prevention and control of swine diseases.

African Swine Fever

African Swine Fever ASF is a deadly disease targeting pigs that would wreak catastrophic havoc on our livestock producers, communities, and economy if it were to occur within our borders.

Classical Swine Fever

Classical Swine Fever results from the infection by Classical Swine Fever Virus CSFV, causing severe illness in swine.

Swine Influenza

Swine influenza is an upper respiratory condition in pigs that's caused by type A influenza viruses IAVs.

Pseudorabies

Pseudorabies affects pig populations, causing abortion and stillbirths, respiratory issues, and occasionally fatalities due to its contagious nature.

Swine Brucellosis

Swine brucellosis is an infectious disease characterized by the occurrence of abortions, infertility, and reduced milk production in infected pigs.

Swine Health Services Activities

Biosecurity measures are essential for protecting swine health with the passage of the Swine Health Protection Act, which has implemented restrictions on garbage feeding.

Other Swine Health Programs

In addition to these core initiatives, we also undertake Wildlife Disease Surveillance and Research activities that contribute significantly to our comprehensive disease prevention strategies.
