Continuous Improvement
Public Health is one of six We Care Ethical Principles that demonstrate the industry's commitment to continuous improvement across all aspects of pork production. These principles serve as guiding lights for producers, informing dly decisions that benefit people, pigs, and our environment.
Recently, NPB hosted a comprehensive two-day tour connecting participants with every link in the food supply chn - from farm to fork. Through this experience, learners gned insights into swine medicine, production practices, and the implementation of One Health principles within the industry. The on-farm efforts contribute significantly to community health and pig welfare.

PQA Plus Certification?
The We Care Ethical Principles are embodied in Pork Quality Assurance Plus PQA Plus certification program trning for caregivers. This program emphasizes healthy pigs and also considers environmental impact, employee well-being, and community health - all aspects of a One Health approach on the farm.
By aligning with this philosophy, producers enhance pig health while being responsible stewards of our environment, good employers, and considerate neighbors. Food safety is fundamental to PQA Plus certification, which requires strict adherence to protocols and timelines to ensure that any medication residues are eliminated before processing.

Protecting Public Health Through Technology and Innovation
Pork producers are on the leading edge of innovation, utilizing advanced technologies that support surveillance, early detection, treatment, disease prevention, and beyond. By investing in innovative tools like this, we can track industry-wide data to monitor antibiotic usage patterns and identify trs that impact public health.
Committed to Continuous Improvement
NPB's efforts are amplifying the One Health commitment within pork production and exting beyond our sector. I am honored to have participated as a panelist at World Anti-Microbial Resistance Congress 2024 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, discussing how a One Health approach can address challenges posed by antimicrobial resistance AMR while measuring success.
Our industry is dedicated to continuous improvement and proud of its commitment to producing the highest quality food possible - all while enhancing the enjoyment of pork worldwide and promoting global well-being.
Through a legislative national Pork Checkoff initiative, US pork producers invest $0.35 for each $100 value of hogs sold. Importers contribute equally based on a specific formula.
