Introduction:
This research provides a systematic review of traditional postnatal care practices carried out by women from diverse geographical areas across Asia. The purpose of this study is to consolidate existing knowledge on these cultural practices and offer a more comprehensive understanding, thus contributing to global maternal health initiatives.
:
We employed a structured approach involving five stages: formulating the research question, identifying relevant studies, selecting pertinent papers for review, extracting data according to predefined categories, collating findings, summarizing insights, and finally, reporting outcomes. The systematic search encompassed databases like PubMed, SCOPUS, Google Scholar, and ProQuest from 2013 through 2023.
Findings:
Our analysis revealed a diverse range of postpartum care practices across various Asian regions:
In West Asia and East Asia, women often avoid certn foods deemed unsuitable during the recovery period. They limit activities to bed rest in South Asia and Central Asia.
There is evidence that some postnatal mothers engage in risky behaviors due to cultural beliefs about costs involved or a lack of awareness.
In Southeast Asia, traditional practices emphasize warmth and heat applications through diet adjustments and other forms of thermal therapy for the body during recovery. These practices are seen as preventive measures agnst postpartum health issues, honoring tradition and parental advice.
s:
The regional variations in postnatal care practices in Asian countries pose potential risks to maternal health. To enhance standards and foster collaboration, there is a need to focus on educating women and strengthening local maternal-child health services providers.
Implications for Improvement:
This review underscores the importance of integrating traditional knowledge with contemporary evidence-based practices in postpartum care. Improving educational programs about safe and healthy practices could significantly contribute to improving maternal health outcomes in Asia.
